Insun Park is a Seoul-based artist and one of the few female masters of Gangnyeong mask dance, a form of Korean traditional performance recognized as part of the country’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Traditionally performed by men, this art form combines music, movement, and storytelling into a unified theatrical expression.
Park began her training at a young age and has since developed a distinct artistic voice that bridges traditional practice and contemporary perspective. Her work explores how inherited forms can evolve, engaging with both the historical roots of mask dance and its place in modern cultural conversations.
With Insun Park & Generals, she expands that vision into a collaborative, music-driven performance. The ensemble blends traditional Korean instrumentation and rhythmic structures with rock elements, creating a layered and immersive sound. Movement, music, and narrative unfold together, offering a fresh interpretation of a centuries-old tradition.
Both grounded and forward-looking, the performance invites audiences into a form that is at once deeply rooted and continually evolving.
