Founded in Los Angeles in 2000, TAIKOPROJECT was created with the goal of shaping a contemporary American voice within the art of taiko. Drawing from traditional Japanese drumming, the group has developed a performance style that combines powerful rhythms with original compositions and choreography.

Their breakthrough came in 2005 when they became the first American ensemble to win the Tokyo International Taiko Contest, establishing them as a leading force in the global taiko community. Since then, they have appeared on major stages including the Academy Awards, the Grammy Awards, and national television programs, as well as collaborating with artists across genres.

TAIKOPROJECT’s work is defined by its physicality and precision. Each performance blends music and movement into a tightly coordinated experience, where rhythm drives both sound and motion.

With a balance of tradition and innovation, TAIKOPROJECT continues to expand the boundaries of taiko, offering audiences a performance that is both rooted in history and unmistakably contemporary.
